Another day … another blog entry

I was up in SF at JavaOne today. On the plus side, they had carrot cake and I got a JBoss t-shirt (I’m sure JB will be jealous), but I came out of most of the sessions realizing that most developers don’t make good speakers despite being fairly long winded. By 5pm, I was pretty tired of it all, but there was an interesting talk on Amazon.com’s web services and I’m looking forward to downloading some of the slides from various talks and hunting down some real information.

Me and Geoff JohnsWhile I was at JavaOne, I looked through my bag and discovered a poster for Ex Machina that I picked up at Wondercon. This got me to thinking about the picture that I made Dave take of me and Geoff Johns at the Wondercon a couple of years ago (I’ll admit that it’s kind of a silly picture but he was a good sport about it and I’m a big fan).

Who wouldn’t want titles?

After looking at my blog and wondering why there weren’t any titles (or more precisely, what a person would do to enter a title), I looked through the help and found the option to turn on titles. This really made me think about who wouldn’t want titles? Are there people that just want to throw up a random stream of consciousness with a blatant disregard for trying to summarize the information that they then thrust into the ether that is the “web”? (Of course, that might also be the point.) After turning on said titles, I went in and added titles to everything, which made me think about revisionist history and Scott’s efforts back in the Contori days to prevent us from allowing note editing so that no one could go and make him say crazy stuff like “I like JAG” (you know that you’re all waiting for the JAG post). Ahhhh … memories. Also, does anyone else find it odd that the spell checker for a blogging tool doesn’t recognize the word “blog“?

Welcome to The Jungle (Run)

I finally registered for my first race of the summer, The Jungle Run. I ran the half marathon last year, but this year I think that Mike and I are just going to run the 10k portion so that we are better prepared for a half marathon later.

Entertainment center goodness (and Eclipse)

Entertainment centerWhile I’m waiting for JUnit tests to run, I figured I’d blog some more since I’ve got the blogging fever. For anyone who didn’t see it when I sent out an email, here is an example of modern entertainment center design. I love it. In random unrelated news Eclipse 3.1RC4 is out. Supposedly, it’s just bug fixes from here until the end. In something slightly related to the last couple of sentences, I also found a job listing for an Eclipse Evangelist that looked like it would be fun (more fun than a time sheet application) for a while at least. (If I’m going to post stuff like that, maybe I shouldn’t have given the blog url to my boss.)
